Uncongested Long Beach California Airport
The Long Beach California Airport is a very interesting airport. Why? Because it's so small that it has VERY little congestion. It claims to be the "easy in, easy out" airport of this region, and from what I can see, this is a true statement. I've never flown into or out of Long Beach, but I've been to the airport as a visitor, and I was pleased by the lack of crowds and hubbub. The small terminal building at the Long Beach California airport was originally dedicated in 1941 and retains its old-time appearance. It's GOING to keep its original charm in the future, too. As a Cultural Heritage Landmark (designated so in 1990), nothing CAN be done to change its appearance. (So, if anything, an ADDITIONAL terminal would have to be built in order for expansion to occur.) Meanwhile, the City of Long Beach promotes the airport as a filming site for WWII era movies!
The list of airlines serving Long Beach Airport is short & sweet. Here it is---***Alaska Airlines, telephone number 800/426-0333. The Alaska Airlines website is...

***American Airlines, telephone number 800/433-7300. American Airlines website is...

***America West Airlines, telephone number 800/428-4322. (Telephone number is shared with US Airways, with whom America West merged in October 2005. For now, flights at Long Beach Airport will continue to be made in the "America West" name.) The America West website is...

***JetBlue Airways, airlines telephone number is 800/JETBLUE. The JetBlue website is...

As you can see from the Long Beach Airport photo below, finding your way around the terminal won't be any problem. This terminal is simply too small for you to get lost! The ground floor features the ticketing desks of all the airlines, plus a snack bar and a gift shop. On the 2nd floor, you'll find a full-service restaurant. To get to your plane, there are the "south gates" for JetBlue flights (the Long Beach California airport is one of their hubs), and the "north gates" for the flights of the other 3 airlines.

Long Beach California Airport Parking Lots and Rates
Now, let's talk about parking and transportation at the Long Beach California airport. First of all, there's a free parking lot for people waiting to pick up passengers! To get to this lot, exit I-405 at Lakewood Blvd. as usual. Go north until you reach Donald Douglas Drive, as usual. Then, however, instead of turning LEFT towards the terminal, turn right. You should immediately see the "cell phone lot." That's it! (They call it the cell phone lot because they're expecting that your party will call your cell phone upon arrival....at which time, you then drive up to the terminal to get them.) If you turn LEFT onto Donald Douglas Drive, you'll come to the Long Beach Airport's 3 on-site parking lots. Lot A (a garage) is the closest. Lot B (open) is next, and Lot C is the farthest away from the terminal. There is also a remote lot, Lot D. It would only be used by long-term-parkers who wish to save money, because the other lots don't ever completely fill. A free shuttle runs to and from Lot D from the Long Beach Airport's terminal building. Long Beach Airport parking rates for all lots: Short-term rates---first 20 minutes are free, and then it's $1/hour thereafter. Long Beach Airport long-term rates: Lot A--$15 per day. Lot B--$12/day. Lot C--$9/day. Lot D--$6/day. The Long Beach California airport claims to have the cheapest parking of all airports in the region---and I believe them!
Long Beach California Airport Car Rentals and Taxis
At the Long Beach California airport, taxi cabs can be found just out front and to the side of the terminal. Flat rates are available to some selected locations, as follows---***$19 to Downtown Long Beach (eg. the Convention Center, the Long Beach Aquarium, and major hotels.) ***$24 to The Queen Mary, a decomissioned ocean liner which now serves as a floating hotel and tourist attraction. ***$36 to the Disneyland Resort or the Anaheim Convention Center. $36 to the San Pedro, California cruise ship docks. ***$49 to LAX airport Los Angeles ***$49 to the Orange County CA airport--John Wayne. It's nice that they have these amounts pre-calculated. This way, a person knows exactly how much to plan into the vacation budget for cab fare in advance!
Renting a car at the Long Beach California airport is easy. Directly across from the entrance/exit of the terminal is a special parking lot just for the rental cars.
